We have the newest lodge building in the area, maybe not the nicest but the newest. We have a play room and playground for the children, two pool tables, new juke box with no adults only music, three dart boards, two horseshoe pits and a big screen TV with two smaller TV’s , all with dish network.
All of this is for only $40 per year dues. So why are we not taking advantage of it?
We are governed by Moose International rules that we have to follow to remain a tax free organization. State laws must be followed to remain open. NOTE: Moose International rules are sometimes more strict than ABC state laws. This being said we will abide by them so members only will be allowed to make purchases or play in dart, pool or horseshoe or any other tournaments.
Delinquent members cannot be a guest in the lodge. So if you feel that you can drop your dues and come in with your spouse or girlfriend or boyfriend, FORGET ABOUT IT!
We will be checking cards and the guest register to be sure that we comply. We don’t want to be fined for violation of the guest policy.
For 40 of the last 45 years of my life I have dedicated to the Moose. I did this not only for my belief in Mooseheart and Moosehaven, but so our members can have a place for social gathering in the lodge for our members.
For most of you, it seems that the thinking is that I and the officers are the only ones that can change a light bulb, shovel snow, pick up trash from the parking lot, do dishes, change filters or clean smoke eaters. It is the duty of all members to keep and maintain the lodge. If we can donate some of our time, so can you. Be proud of your lodge!
To prove how much interest the members have, only one non-officer showed up for a special meeting to sell the excess property and secure a line of credit. For the dart tournament meeting, we had 6 officers and 2 wives. Lots of interest.
We have struggled to make ends meet for the past 2 years due to the cost of insurance, utilities, and inventory and lack of support from the members. If we don’t or can’t pay our insurance in April, Moose International will close us down. Then later on when you drive by, you can tell your kids what we used to have.
I will remain on as Administrator until we close or someone else is willing to take over for me. I have a lot of things that need done around my house. I am sure my wife would appreciate it!
